Developer Jacques Desmis was inspired by the ingenious selection technology of the popular Nik plugins when programming the function. The release of RawTherapee 5.9 in November 2022 after several years of development added the ability to modify specific areas of an image in an intuitive and effective way. In addition, darktable only runs really smoothly if you have a fast graphics card. It takes a bit of getting used to, and you have to thoroughly understand what is going on to achieve good results. Although darktable is basically an excellent piece of software, there are drawbacks for some users. But of all the open source programs, only darktable has offered these features thus far. I¨ve been used to doing this entirely in sliders in LR and so when I first started with it in RT, I began with “Saturation 2 colours” option. Unlike lightroom split toning, there are many more options in RT. I’ve been experimenting with split toning in RawTherapee even sice the feature came out, but I never had the nerve to really develop some regular use of it…until now. It’s been more than a week since my last post, but I’ll add an extra photo in this post, so I hope that makes up for that.
